On Sunday August 29th 2010, we had our fundraising day at Fairford Cricket Club in Gloucestershire. The day was a great success, helping us raise just under £500.00 for the Institute of Cancer Research UK.
Our main prize draw, which we have been selling tickets for over the course of the last few months, was completed, along with a Tombola, Guess the Teddy’s Name and Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar. Including all pre-event raffle ticket sales, this event raised over £1,400.00 for the charity, so again we would like to say a big thank you for all of your support and dontations which has made this event such a great success.

July has been a busy month, both in terms of our ongoing training and fundraising.
We have recently completed our second hiking weekend, this time covering well over 10 miles in approx 6 hours. Our next planned training event is in Snowdon during September so we are really now starting to ramp up our training.
In addition, our raffle tickets for the fundraising draw in August are selling well and as a result we have now broken through the £1,000 mark so are well on our way to making our target. A big thank you to everyone who has purchased tickets! We still have raffle tickets available so be sure to get yours – they will also be available to buy on the day of the draw on Sunday 29th April at the Fairford Cricket Club annual summer event.
We are still working on our plans for a late-summer charity golf day, so be sure to keep an eye on the site for upcoming details.

Over the past weekend, I continued my training for our Great Wall Hike challenge by spending 2 days in Snowdonia, climbing the summit on Saturday with my wife Nicola, and close friends Hannah Harrison and Dom Richards.
We managed to get up and down the mountain in approx 4 and a half hours, which is a pretty steady pace for such a hot day. More pictures will be posted soon.
Myself and Nathan are scheduled for a weekend together in Snowdonia during September 2010.

On Saturday 5th June 2010, we kicked off our training preperations with a 9 mile hike in the Cotswolds. We both put our equipment, boots, and legs to the test and completed the walk in approx 4 hours. Happily, we completed this with out too many issues, other than the odd blister! We have now scheduled in joint training days every month for the next 9 months, with a mixture of walks & cycling, and from January 2011 will be completing full weekend treks to help build up our endurance and fitness leading up to the big event next March.
This will all be happening in addition to our individual training plans in between, so we are confident that we are on the right track with our preperations.
We planned on taking some pictures of our first trek to publish here, however at the top of our “Glitch List” for the day was a glaring school boy error……dead batteries in the camera! We will ensure that we are better prepared moving forward on this front to be able to share some more detail in the future! However, we did manage these two pictures before we set out!
Our next training weekend is on 10th July 2010, and I am also spending a weekend in Snowdon on 26th June so we promise to liven up our site with some fresh training pictures soon!

We are now over the £600.00 mark for the Institute of Cancer Research UK – thank you once again to everyone for your support to date.
On the weekend of June 5th we will be going out on a 20 mile hike to break in some of our new equipment and to put it all through its paces so to speak – not to mention ourselves!
In addition, we are also in the process of arranging a Charity Golf Day in Reading, Berks during either August or September 2010. This will be open to all, and in return for your entry fee (TBC) we will be offering bacon role and coffee on arrival, an 18-hole golf competition with trophies up for grabs for the top 3 finishers, as well as closest to the pins and longest drives. All proceeds from this event will go into our fundraising pot for the Institute of Cancer Research UK.
Details on the venue for this golf event, and all registration details will be published in the next few weeks. In addition, we will also be finalising our summer fundraising day and will publish all the details in due course.
Check back soon for further updates, and for pictures from our hiking weekend during June.

With less than a year to go until our challenge, our training & preperation is already well under way. We have been busy in recent months creating as much awareness for our campaign as possible and discussing fundraising ideas.
That all said, there is a planned trip for a weekend in Snowdonia in July to break in the boots and start some general hiking training, as well as ongoing general fitness work.
Pictures and details will follow soon to keep you all updated with our progress!
